Ljubljana is the start of my return to Europe. In October of 2015 I spent two weeks in Iceland and had an incredible time. I had been planning a European trip for a while but I wasn’t really sure where I wanted to go. It wasn’t until I found Alan X El Mundo, a Mexican YouTuber with a channel dedicated to travel. His highlight of Slovenia made me fall in love with the country’s natural beauty. After seeing his series on Slovenia I knew I wanted to drive through Vršič Pass and experience Soča Rocks. This is my adventure throughout Slovenia.

Best of Slovenia is a way for me to consolidate the best of Slovenia into one photo story. In my internal metrics I was noticing that most people would only see one set and miss the rest of what Slovenia has to offer. Best of Slovenia is meant to fix that. I make it easy and clear that more photos exist for Ljubljana or Triglav National Park. Here is the best of Slovenia. Enjoy.
Ljubljana is the start of my road trip across Slovenia. I spend enough time to see Ljubljana, have breakfast and see the major spots. The cathedral is worth spending time in, as well as the castle. Walking through the center of town is a must and it’s really important to try all of the pastries.
Triglav National Park is the only national park in Slovenia and one that hosts the natural beauty of Slovenia. The park it self is home to many natural wonders, including Lake Bohinj, Savica Waterfall and my favorite, Vršič Pass. My suggestion, if you’re going to Slovenia set a base that you can drive back to at night. Slovenia is really small and you can spend the day in the park, drive back to base and explore the rest of the park the next day.
Bled is a small town, 40 minutes outside of Ljubljana. Bled is mostly known for Lake Bled, a lake with a church in the center of it. In Bled you can go for a hike and see Lake Bled from above or go to the castle and fork over €10. I decided to skip the castle altogether. The reviews online were not great and people regarded the castle as a tourist trap with nothing interesting to see and mostly a place for overpriced food. I wouldn’t spend more than a day in Bled. There isn’t a lot to do in Bled and parking can be really expensive and hard to come by.
Piran is a beautiful city by the coast of Slovenia with a few quirks that make it an interesting place to spend time in. I haven’t spent any time in Venice but people that have point out that Piran very much reflects the style of Venice. The center of Piran is vibrant with vendors selling amazing gelato, coupled with decent cold brew and fresh seafood. I very much enjoyed Piran, the view at sunset is spectacular and the overall walkable aspect of the city made it a great place to spend time in.
Visiting Italy was not in the agenda but when a great friend from high school knew I was visiting Slovenia, he messaged me on Facebook and suggested I cross over into Italy to have pizza in his hometown of Gorizia. This was an offer I could not refuse. On this day I had the opportunity to catch up with an old friend from high school and chat about life and eat incredible pizza. Pietro, my friend from school showed me around town and we eventually made our way up into the castle of Gorizia where the views of the city were spectacular. To finish the day we drove to Kanal and chatted over a cup of coffee and gelato. Solid day!
